Gods and Heroes: Rome Rising is Perpetual Entertainment's persistent state offering set around 300 BC. Historically, this was the period during which the Republic took the initial steps toward eventual dominance of the known world. However, Carthage was a still major rival, with outposts across the Mediterranean region, from Iberia to Sicilia and beyond. The Gauls occupied a large portion of Western Europe, and had raided parts of the Italian peninsula. While not disciplined, their warriors compensated through sheer ferocity. To the north, their Germanic neighbors were just as warlike, perhaps slightly less reckless in battle, but even more resolute.
Along with these and other human foes like the Samnites, Greeks and Etruscans, the game also incorporates a range of fearsome creatures drawn from myths and legends; a few selected examples are gigantic Cyclopes, snake-haired Gorgons, mighty Minotaurs, cannibalistic Laestrygones, Volta wolf-men and fire-breathing Chimeras. In addition, a dozen Olympian deities play significant roles by providing special quests, support and godly powers to those who align with them. The available classes are Scout, Nomad, Mystic, Soldier, Gladiator and Priest. No matter which you choose, you can recruit NPC minions that will fight at your side and level up with you.

Scouts are archers who primarily deal damage from range. Among the more than 130 minions that can be recruited into the players' squads, many can complement your character if you choose this class, including these three possibilities.
Name: Terennius Besnui
Type: Volscian Infantry
Role in Squad: Terennius is an Infantry minion who specializes in tanking, which means he will be especially handy to the Scout when playing solo. Set him loose on your enemies, and you can sit back and deliver the ranged damage.
History: Terennius Besnui is the son of simple farmers, but he was never content with that life and always lusted for excitement and adventure. He left his family's home in the Volscian Village of Sifella to seek out more exhilarating work in the service of Rome. His travels eventually brought him to the Alban Hills, and finally the great city of Aricia, where he found what he was looking for in the life of a mercenary. Fighting bandits and Samnites at the behest of the local Praefect was a dream job for Terennius.
A friendly disposition and enthusiasm for the job helped Terennius learn to speak Latin and adapt to Roman culture, and he was just beginning to really make a life for himself when he disappeared. The last mission he accepted sent him to Satyr Glen, in the northern portion of the Alban Hills, to combat the mischievous Sileni Fauni, who have recently begun a campaign to eradicate all humans from their homeland. They naturally took exception to his trespassing on their territory, and turned him into a tree. The curse will become permanent if someone doesn't break it soon, and Terennius is more than likely to pledge his services to his savior.

Role in Squad: As a healer, Marco is mainly a supporting member of the squad, and will be useful when the Scout is playing solo. He stays out of the fray and keeps the damage dealers healthy so they can stay on their feet and in the fight.

History: The Metelleo family lived and prospered in Vinetum for many generations, but when their fellow Faliscans took up arms to protest Roman dominion of their ancestral homeland, the Metelleos fled their home in Aruo Mesto for the safety of Falerii. Having lived among Romans all of his life, young Marco had come to respect the priests of Apollo, and begged Marceasno, his father, to allow him to study at the temple in Rome rather than emigrate with his family. With great sorrow in his heart, Marceasno eventually gave his son permission to travel to Rome and begin his studies.
After some time, Marco was sent to study with a well-respected priest named Abercius in Ostia, where he flourished. In particular, he mastered the art of healing so quickly that he seemed destined for a life of service to the Republic and the Olympian gods. However, all that came to an end when Indalectius, a close friend of Abercius and the priest charged with the safekeeping of a sacred artifact of Apollo, was murdered by river bandits. The artifact was stolen, and Abercius set off at once to recover it, for this artifact is all that prevents an ancient evil from returning to the mortal realm. Thus Marco Metelleo finds himself without a teacher, though his desire to serve Rome and its gods has not waned.
